Application Process
It is the procedure of the Oxford Civil Service Board that applicants applying for a titled position with the City of Oxford be tested. When an applicant successfully passes an examination, he/she is then referred to as a Candidate. Each candidate is then listed on an Eligible Roster, beginning with the top score.
The Board certifies the top six scores and those applications along with the test scores are given to the Department Head who has the vacant position.
According to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations, each applicant will be given one-half (1/2) percentage point for each year of experience and each year of college; pertaining to the position for which he/she is applying, with accompanying proof of grade or a copy of the certification/diploma.
The procedure/practices for hiring Fire Fighters have changed. Uncertified applicants are now required to take the BAT (Basic Aptitude Test) administered by Gadsden State. The cost for this test is $45.00 and is paid for by the applicant. Results of the test are emailed to the training officers.
